How the BigTime rating works

Every player starts at 1500. After each match, your rating updates based on your results:

  • Beat someone rated higher than you — big gain
  • Beat someone rated lower — small gain
  • Lose to someone rated higher — small loss
  • Lose to someone rated lower — big loss

A dominant win (2-0) moves your rating more than a narrow win (2-1).

The colored bars next to your rating show how confident the system is in that number. Three green bars means the rating is well-established.
Fewer bars means the system is still figuring out your level — your rating will move more after each tournament until it settles.

If you haven’t played in a while, the confidence decreases. When you return, your rating will adjust faster to find your current level.

Players’ placement in draws still depends on organiser judgment and the lottery thereafter.
